YES, THERE ARE MANY "REASONS TO PLANT or TRANSPLANT TREES"

-Don't Under Estimate the Value of Trees! Everybody loves the beauty that trees provide to our landscape and environment! They are also one of the most sought after amenities to real estate. We often times hear home owners say, "I bought this house for the beautiful trees” but look at them now. Trees are and can be a significant buying or selling feature of a home. High quality trees and appropriate landscaping can represent as much as 10 to 19 percent of the value of property.

-The value of trees goes even beyond the substantial financial aspect. Trees may offer shade to homes and their residents. A row of well placed trees can reduce the impact of sun, wind and snow thus reducing energy consumption up to as much as 30 percent!! Trees play a significant role in reducing air and water pollution. A tree's extensive root system holds soil and reduces erosion. Trees foliage acts as filters, absorbing both solid and gaseous particulates. These particulates include such pollutants as ozone, carbon dioxide, chlorine, sulfur dioxide and others. Of course, trees also give off oxygen as a by product of photosynthesis. We all worry so much worry about global warming, erosion of the ozone layer, and devastation to the rain and natural forests.

-Trees also provide a habitat for birds and wildlife. Very little can replace the beauty and serenity of songbirds greeting and treating our senses as awake in the morning and spend the day enjoying our yards. There is much written about the impact that trees can have on our emotional and physical well-being.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING TO BUY AND
PLANT or TRANSPLANT TREES

-It is important that you fit the tree to the site and application:

- What is the tree species mature height?

- You must be aware of what the trees size/ height and shape will be at full maturity. This will ensure that it fits the area and does not encroach on other trees or buildings.

- What are its soil requirements, does it require wet or dry site?

- Does it require a shady or sunny sight or a blend of both?

- You must also be aware of the mature root system (top 6 -18”) and often out-to-branch drip line. This will ensure that the roots are not starved or cause cracks under paved areas, walkways and sidewalks.

- Are there any Spring/Fall bloom and color considerations?

- Be aware of the fall leaf shed, especially around walkways, steps and handicap access areas.
